:// about blank
Last May, the club ://about blank applied for funding from the Clubcommission Berlin’s noise protection fund to counteract existing and future conflicts with the neighborhood. Since its opening in 2010, the club has been regularly confronted with noise complaints from both the immediate and more distant neighborhood.
The acoustics office K5 carried out an assessment of the club and proposed measures to improve the situation and prevent noise emissions and immissions. The focus of the implementation was on structural noise protection in the interior. Specifically, this included the removal of five existing external doors in the two guest rooms, which were replaced with steel soundproof doors. Two smaller doors that led to the conservatory and thus to the outside area of the club were bricked up and replaced with a new, wider and offset soundproof door.
A strip foundation with a wall was built on the street side and outside the building to completely seal the leakage at the bay window. A total of five windows were replaced in the event and bar area, which were previously single-glazed but have now been replaced with soundproof windows.
In guest room 1, one window had to be fully openable for smoke extraction, which is why it was adapted accordingly. Two windows in the bar area were given a tilt and turn function for ventilation after operation. In addition, two windows in guest room 1 were replaced with soundproof windows, one of which also had a tilt-and-turn function for ventilation outside of event operations. A former window opening in guest room 1 was permanently closed.
In order to preserve the club’s atmosphere and style, parts of the windows were covered with film and the doors of guest room 1 were repainted.
The expert opinion of the acoustics office proposed a sound engineering forecast with various sound reinforcement options in the outdoor area, which could be implemented thanks to the funding in order to develop sustainable strategies for the club’s operations.
Since the soundproofing measures were implemented, significant improvements have been noted in terms of noise levels. The sound that penetrates to the outside is noticeably reduced, which is also noticeable without a sound meter. Overall, the soundproofing project and the associated funding can be considered a complete success, as no more noise complaints have been received from the neighborhood since then.
