FRANNZ CLUB
About the Project
Frannz Club is located in the historic Kulturbrauerei complex in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg. The former Schultheiss brewery is now home to concerts, parties, readings and other cultural events. Frannz Club itself has a long history as a venue for music and culture in Berlin.
Initial Situation
Music events had repeatedly led to noise complaints from the surrounding neighborhood. The aim was to reduce noise emissions, particularly in the low-frequency range, and to improve relations with the neighborhood in the long term. A sound assessment was carried out first, followed by offers from four specialist companies.
Measures
1. Sound Insulation of the Historic Box Windows
The seven windows of the Salon facing the neighboring residential buildings were acoustically improved. The existing historic box-window construction was preserved. BENGglas soundproof insulating glass was installed in the inner window layer. The glass achieves a weighted sound reduction index of Rw = 38 dB.
2. Professional Installation and Sealing
For the installation, the existing glazing was carefully removed and the window rebates were inspected. The new panes were professionally installed and sealed. The window sashes were then adjusted and checked for proper operation and airtightness. The existing historic box-window structure was preserved throughout the process.
Result
The planned objectives were achieved and noise emissions from events were reduced. The improved sound insulation of the seven windows is intended to reduce the impact of events on the surrounding neighborhood in the future.
As the measures were only recently completed, their long-term effect on the relationship with the neighborhood will become clearer during continued operation. Despite delays caused by delivery difficulties and weather conditions, the planned measures were fully implemented.
