HAUBENTAUCHER
About the project
Haubentaucher was established in 2014 on the RAW site in Berlin-Friedrichshain and quickly developed into a popular summer hotspot. The combination of industrial architecture and an open-air pool area shaped the character of the venue for many years. In 2024, the club was taken over and is now continuing under the new name Maaya.
Initial situation
The open-air operation and the resulting sound emissions made comprehensive soundproofing measures necessary in order to reduce the impact on the surrounding area.
Measures
1. Structural soundproofing measures
Open window areas were closed with solid soundproof walls. Additional openings in the façades and at transitions were also sealed in accordance with soundproofing requirements.
2. Soundproof door
An existing opening was closed off with masonry and fitted with a specially designed soundproof door.
3. Improved sound distribution
A total of 22 additional loudspeakers were installed to distribute the sound more evenly across the venue and allow for a lower overall volume.
4. Additional amplifiers
Two additional power amplifiers were installed to allow more precise control of the overall sound level.
Result
The measures were based on a professional acoustic assessment and were specifically designed to go beyond the minimum legal requirements. Despite weather-related delays and delivery difficulties, all planned work was successfully completed.
The improvements provide noticeable relief for the surrounding area while allowing cultural events to continue on a soundproofing-optimised basis.
