About the project
Marktlokal is located in the historic Markthalle Neun in Berlin-Kreuzberg. The venue combines gastronomy and events and is situated in a special setting between the market hall and surrounding residential buildings.

Initial situation
The existing soundproofing wall at the venue was not sufficient to protect the surrounding neighbourhood from noise. Despite the measures already in place, there were still complaints about the volume. The aim was therefore to improve the soundproofing and significantly reduce noise reaching the neighbouring buildings.

Measures

1. New noise barrier
The existing soundproofing wall was replaced by a significantly higher wall. This provides better protection against sound, especially towards the neighbouring buildings.

2. New sound system
The existing subwoofers were replaced by a new sound system from Kirsch Audio. The new system directs the bass more precisely towards the event area and allows the music to be distributed more evenly and with better control.

Result
The planned measures were fully implemented. Even without a final second measurement, there was a clear decrease in complaints after the work was completed. At the same time, the sound quality in the event space improved because the bass is now distributed more evenly. This also makes events with higher demands on sound quality possible.
The goals of the project were achieved and the noise impact on the surrounding neighbourhood was significantly reduced.
