PRACHTWERK
About the Project
Prachtwerk is a cultural and event venue in Berlin-Neukölln. Located in a former industrial building, it regularly hosts concerts, parties and other events. With more than 100 concerts each year, Prachtwerk is an established live music venue in Neukölln.
Initial Situation
As the building is used for both residential and commercial purposes, there had been repeated noise complaints from the surrounding neighborhood. In particular, opening the windows during events, as well as sound and vibrations from the stage area, were identified as problematic.
The aim was to improve sound insulation while allowing the venue to continue operating. Both structural and organisational measures were therefore implemented.
Measures
1. New Ventilation System
A new ventilation system was installed so that the windows can remain closed during events. This provides sufficient ventilation without allowing additional sound to escape to the outside.
2. Soundproof Curtains
Soundproof curtains were installed in front of the relevant windows. They reduce sound escaping to the outside and improve the sound insulation of the event space.
3. Vibration Isolation in the Stage Area
Measures were implemented to isolate vibrations in the stage area. This reduces the transmission of vibrations and structure-borne sound to the building structure.
Result
The measures implemented have significantly improved the acoustic situation. The new ventilation system allows the windows to remain closed during events. The soundproof curtains further reduce sound escaping to the outside, while the vibration isolation reduces the transmission of vibrations and structure-borne sound through the building.
Since the measures were implemented, complaints from the surrounding neighborhood have become considerably less frequent. Not all of the originally planned measures could be implemented as part of the project. An additional soundproof door and measures to improve the surround sound system will therefore be considered at a later stage.
