TENNIS BAR
About the project
Tennis Bar is a music and cultural venue in Berlin. Its programme includes live music, dance events, background music and karaoke.
Initial situation
Based on a soundproofing assessment by K5, measures were developed to improve the venue’s sound insulation. A further measurement by Studio Singer showed better results than expected, which made it possible to reduce the scope of the planned measures.
Measures
1. Building sound insulation
An acoustic separation was created between the concert room, the other bar areas and the courtyard, including new walls and soundproof doors. Chimney shafts were filled with sand and the exterior wall was reinforced with additional plasterboard layers. Pipes and ventilation ducts were also soundproofed, and silencers were added to the ventilation system.
2. Improving the room acoustics
Bass absorbers, ceiling sails and Basotect acoustic panels were installed in the concert room and entrance area. These measures improve the room acoustics, especially in the bass range.
3. New sound system
A new KV2 Audio sound system was installed. Studio Singer planned, set up, measured and limited the system. The subwoofers were placed on Sylomer mounts to reduce the transmission of vibrations. A limiter allows the sound levels to be controlled before and after 10 pm.
Result
The measures improve sound insulation between the venue and the surrounding rooms while also improving the sound experience inside the venue. Most of the building work was carried out by the venue team themselves.
